REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE

Recycling is a way of life. Once you start thinking about the difference you can make to you and your family, the logical next step will be for the planet on which you live.

• Reduce - We can reduce emissions into the atmosphere made by decomposition of landfills and trash burning by using less and throwing away less.
• Reuse - by reusing kitchen bags, shopping bags, clothing, boxes, coffee mugs and other products we can conserve our resources used to create new items.
• Recycle - by recycling glass, paper, plastics, tires, clothes, pencils, yellow pages, steel and aluminum they can be used to make many useful products. By doing this we can divert materials from landfills and incinerators. The EPA puts this number at 82 million tons each year.
  

TURN these recycled items from discards to useful products;

• Plastics- to picnic tables, pet dishes, bird feeders, pens
• Plastic Bottles- to fleece blankets, shoe laces, hats, shirts, rulers
• Glass- to candle holders, gifts, jewelry, suncatchers
• Tires- to coasters, mouse pads, jar openers, playground flooring, swings backpacks, shoulder bags
• Paper -to books, calendars, greeting cards, pens and pencils
• Yellow Pages, Denim, Newsprint- to combs, ice scrapers, key tags, license plates, pencils, flower pots
• Steel and Aluminum- to magnets, slinkys, binders, clipboards, photo frames
• E-Waste - computers, TV, cell phones, iPods, etc. These last forever in a landfill.
  Local areas have drop off points for these items to be recycled, refurbished and reused.
  Some stores will let you bring in your old gadgets to get a gift card for their value of the item.
  Other stores will let you trade your old or used item for a similar one.

UNWANTED HOUSEHOLD ITEMS - Household items that are no longer needed or wanted can be a problem. They shouldn't go to a landfill. Now there is a website to help -Freecycle.org
Put in your zip and list your unwanted items and someone living in your area will respond. Then you just put the items at the curb to be picked up.
